Ikoyi, Lagos-based Federal High Court Justice Akintayo Aluko remanded musician Terry Alexander Ejeh, also known by his stage as Terry Apala, to a correctional facility on Friday, April 25, 2025, on charges of Naira note mutilation.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)'s Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 arraigned Ejeh on a single count connected to the alleged crime.
At a social event on January 5, 2025, in Oniru, within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court, you, Terry Alexander Ejeh, were accused of trampling on Naira notes issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria, committing an offense contrary to and punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007.
Ejeh entered a not guilty plea after hearing the accusations.
After the defendant entered his plea, S.I. Suleiman, the prosecutor, asked for a trial date and sought to have the defendant held in custody until the trial.
A temporary adjournment for the hearing of a current bail application dated April 23, 2025 was requested by defense counsel Felix Nwabuda.
I will be pleading with the court to release the defendant to the defense while also asking for a short date for the bail application hearing.
"We promise to bring him before the court. His ears will not be deceived. On April 23, 2025, he arrived independently from the UK at the invitation of the EFCC.
But the defense attorney argued against the motion, stating, "the application is alien and unheard of."
"I implore the court to grant us the chance to review the application and reply appropriately so that the court can make an informed decision," he pleaded.
In a concise decision, Justice Aluko denied the defense's request and postponed the case for the bail hearing on May 5, 2025.
In addition, the judge directed the defendant's remand at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre until the bail proceedings are concluded.
