EPL: Danny Murphy criticizes Man United's decision to sell star player, calling it "a big mistake"

Manchester United's decision to trade outstanding midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has been criticized by Danny Murphy, a former Premier League player.

He is requesting that Ruben Amorim, the club's boss, verify that the agreement in question was never finalized.

Since the team will soon have to acquire a player of his caliber, he argued that the manager should stick with the offensive midfielder and not focus on profit.

According to Murphy, Amorim should have put more faith in the player and allowed him to play deeper in the defense.

Murphy claims that letting the player leave Old Trafford would be a major error on the part of the Red Devils.

"I don't see what Amorim sees when it comes to Mainoo," he commented on Daily Mail.

I have faith in Mainoo's abilities to fill that defensive role; he only needs the right people to coach and guide him.

Because he can play so many different styles of midfielder, I don't think anyone should label him as just one.

I get that there have been whispers about how United need to sell Alejandro Garnacho to address PSR concerns, but the question remains: does the club have an overabundance of gifted midfielders? No.

The playing days of Christian Eriksen and Casemiro are drawing to a close.

A release was made for Scott McTominay. If United didn't already have Mainoo on their roster, they would be actively seeking to get him.

It would cost at least as much, if not more, to find a suitable replacement for his skills, regardless of whether they sold him for a profit on the books.

Whether United are managed by Amorim or someone else, Mainoo and Garnacho are two ambitious, talented players who can make a significant impact in the coming years.

My actions, if I were Amorim, would include communicating with Mainoo, informing my superiors, and ensuring his continued presence.

Even in the summer, I would be surprised if he left. The other night, his performance will have made people wonder why he hasn't been playing, he continued.

Manchester United advanced to the UEFA Europa League semifinals last week (second leg on April 17) thanks to a goal from Mainoo in the 119th minute of extra time in a 7-6 aggregate victory over Lyon.

Prior to Harry Maguire's injury-time strike (120+1′), the goal had served as an equalizer.
