The ongoing killings in Benue State, especially the recent attacks in the Idoma village, have deeply saddened and infuriated Peace Ogebe, a midfielder for the Super Falcons.
Ogebe published a statement on her social media account in which she bemoaned the never-ending carnage in her home state, explaining that the horrific news reports from the area have kept her up at night.
The current situation in Benue State is the only reason I can't sleep at night. Holy cow, I just can't get any sleep.
For what reason is there so much bloodshed? Their goal, what is it? "There is no answer to this question, and I keep asking myself," she wrote.
The football star expressed concern about the apparent lack of response from the government over the recent attacks, questioning if the authorities are ignorant or intentionally uncaring about the suffering of the people.
The government's silence on these killings begs the question: why? She continued by asking, "Is it that they don't know what to do, or do they just want to be silent on purpose?" She punctuated her post with sorrow emojis and tears.
The development follows recent violent incidents in the Otukpo Local Government Area, which claimed the lives of multiple individuals in the towns of Otukpo and Otobi-Akpa.
Reportedly, armed men stormed nearby towns last week, terrorizing the unsuspecting inhabitants, setting homes on fire, and forcing people to flee their homes.
Keep in mind that at least fifteen people lost their lives in several assaults on farming communities in the Otukpo axis in early April.
Those who managed to escape the armed herders' nighttime raids on their villages and subsequent gunfire have horrific stories to tell.
Numerous people had to leave their homes for fear for their lives, while a number of others suffered serious injuries.
