The information was revealed in a statement on Saturday by Mrs. Obiageli Orah, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
A key segment of the runway experienced an unexpected and substantial break in the asphalt surface, prompting FAAN to declare that the runway will be temporarily closed for emergency repairs.
The statement does mention that the construction was supposed to start on April 22nd and finish before reopening on May 6th, 2025.
But the runway rehabilitation is now complete, and the engineers collaborating with FAAN have given the runway the go-ahead for landings and takeoffs.
Thank you for bearing with us and working with us at this time; FAAN values the airport community's understanding and cooperation.
The public can be assured that all efforts were taken to ensure safety, and the Authority sincerely apologizes for any difficulty this may have caused.
