Death toll in war with Israel revised upward by Iran to more than 1,060; amount could grow, according to Tehran

A new death toll from Iran's recent battle with Israel has been revealed by the authorities. The revised toll acknowledges at least 1,060 casualties and cautions that the figure could yet rise.

During an interview that aired on Iranian state television late Monday, Saeed Ohadi, chairman of Iran’s Foundation of Martyrs and Veterans Affairs, revealed the revised statistic.

Ohadi warned that the number of casualties could rise to 1,100 due to the seriousness of some of the injuries.

Throughout Iran, Israeli warplanes dropped bombs throughout the 12-day confrontation. Key air defence systems, military installations, and portions of Iran's nuclear infrastructure were heavily attacked during the conflict, but the Iranian authorities downplayed the damage.

Iran has been more forthcoming in the weeks following the truce in acknowledging the magnitude of the destruction, but it has been tight-lipped about the number of military gear losses.

The Human Rights Activists group in Washington, DC, has also released its own dead toll, which comes to 1,190.

From Iran's security forces, 435 are missing, along with 436 civilians. According to the group, around 4,475 individuals were injured in the conflict.
