Diogo Jota: Liverpool deeds reveal retirement of No. 20 jersey

In memory of the club's late striker Diogo Jota, Liverpool formally retired his No. 20 jersey on Friday night.

Because of this, Jota will always wear the number 20 jersey for Liverpool.

Just recently, the Portuguese man and his brother Andre were killed in a vehicle crash in Spain.

The funeral for Jota and Andre took place last Saturday.

The Premier League winners, however, retired Jota's shirt across all levels, including the Women's and Academy, after consulting with Jota's wife Rute and family.

After winning many titles, including the Premier League title, Jota joined the Reds from Wolves in 2020.

It was crucial that Diogo's family and wife Rute be informed of our plan as soon as possible, according to Michael Edwards, FSG CEO of Football, who made the announcement on Liverpool's website.

I think this is the first occasion that such a distinction has been given to an individual in Liverpool Football Club's history.

This is, thus, a one-of-a-kind memorial to an extraordinary individual.

"We are ensuring that this squad number will be remembered forever by retiring it."
